You can access your backyard by clicking the gate icon above the edit icon. There is no gate in your igloo, which is good news because if there was one, it would make our igloos look a bit tacky.

Unfortunately, you can't decorate your backyard, so it's just a blank space. The background of the backyard changes depending on what background you have in your igloo. Maybe Club Penguin can add a part of the furniture/igloo catalog with items for your backyard only, like benches or swings or trees... or a swimming pool :P
